NeoStreak
The follow-up to Blue Streak, NeoStreak is an all-purpose synthesis of my favorite elements of Neo Sonic, Modern Sonic, and Frontier Sonic. The stomp is perfect for crowd control and precise platforming, the Cyloop can waste enemies and gather rings, and with the True V2 update you can now perform sick flips like a madman. The idea was to streamline the entire experience while also trying to put as many high-speed traversal options as possible at the player's fingertips at any given moment.
Moveset:
Static Boost (Custom 1)
Boost Climb (Custom 1 against a wall)
Uncurl (Spin while rolling) You can transfer into and out of rolls at will (now also works for drop dash rolls).
Rail-Grind (Hold FireNormal on a rail or fence) Hold the stick in the direction you want to go, but be careful around those sharp turns!
Cyloop (Custom 3 while running) Takes a second to get going the first time you use it in a level, for whatever reason. Encircling enemies damages them, any items and rings caught inside are gathered automatically.
Bounce (Custom 3 in the air) Perfect for hitting switches, precision attacks on enemies, and sinking like a stone to the bottom of goop ponds.
Ceiling Launch (Tap Spin in mid air) Essentially your double-jump. Useful for transferring into a ceiling run.
Drop-Dash (Hold Spin in mid-air to charge) Be sure to hold the spin button til you reach the ground. The longer you charge in the air the more powerful it is on release.
Ceiling Cling (Hold Jump against the ceiling) Once you're firmly attached you can move around slowly or hit the boost to transition into a ceiling run.
Wall Jump (Tap Jump against a wall) Tapping jump will launch you up practically any surface, tapping it again will make you jump away from the wall. Good for quickly gaining height, but not as reliable a climb as the next move on the list.
Wall Clamber (Hold Jump against a wall to climb) Leap up walls quickly by simply holding jump while pressed against them.
Wall Rebound (Tap or hold Spin near a wall) The Wall Rebound will bounce you away from any wall you hit with it. Basically the "go the other way" button.
Lightspeed Dash (TossFlag near a ring) The Lightspeed Dash hopefully needs no introduction. Use this move to transmit NeoStreak from one end of a chain of rings to wherever it ends, like electricity down a wire or fire on a fuse.
Stomp (FireNormal in the air) Probably the most versatile move. The stomp's dust explosion acts like an area-of-effect attack with huge range and is great for hitting distant items boxes or enemies (plus it reaches further than a crab's arm so you can finally turn the tables on those turds). The dust explosion does more damage than a normal thok so you can bring down most enemies in fewer hits than normal (even/especially bosses). You can transfer from a stomp directly into a rail grind if you keep holding FireNormal when you stomp down onto a rail. The stomp can also be used to break through bustable floors, or get extra height on springs. You can even use it while charging a drop dash to instantly hit the ground at top speed!
Sonic Boom (Press or hold Fire) NeoStreak was always meant to include as many of Sonic's canonical abilities as possible, and since Frontiers insists that Sonic is now a demigod on par with Goku and can fling waves of concussive force at enemies without even moving his hands it felt kind of weird not to acknowledge it in some way.
Lastly, you can now fly as Super Sonic. Just press Jump twice after transforming to take flight. While in flight, holding jump makes Super Sonic fly upwards, while holding spin forces him to descend. Pressing Spin and Jump simultaneously while flying will cause Super Sonic to dash forward, a move that can be spammed and used to damage enemies and bosses.
Pro-tips: Tapping Spin in mid-air puts you in Air Trick mode, but holding Spin puts you in Charged Trick mode. While charging, you can use the first trick to change your momentum on a dime in mid-air. Use charged Air Tricks in tandem with the Spin Launch (aka the double jump) for maximum aerial distance.
Charged Trick mode (aka just holding down spin continuously) basically turns NeoStreak into NinjaStreak. Normal jumps become kickjumps, the thok becomes a longer-distance air trick which can be used to cover ground rapidly. Homing attacks are also faster and will frequently chain together while in this state. Try holding spin and spamming jump to turn Neo into a whirling dervish of destruction* *
(FYI, I usually map TossFlag to Y/Triangle, Custom 1 to X/Square, Custom 2 to R3, Custom 3 to B/Circle, FireNormal to A/X, Spin to L1, and Jump to R1, but you're obviously free to mix it up.) Have fun and let me know in the comments if you have any questions or suggestions!
