If you were to make SRB2, what would you add/change/remove?
For me, I would bring in:
- Corona lighting for OpenGL mode
- Old graphics/sounds/music
- DEFINITELY bringing back the pre-2.1 monitors. The 2.2 and 2.1 monitors are ugly. x_x
- Make the cast more like the style of SSN/FSonic. Some hybrid between the two or go more of the FSonic style.
- Unique race/ringslinger maps that were left behind
- Old and new easter eggs
- The old title screen style
- Bringing back 2.0 ERZ, minus the wind tunnel (even if ERZ is outdated.)
- Cosmetics (i.e.: Chat sounds, getting hurt and KO'd, taunts ESPECIALLY!)
- Toggleable match mode playstyle (To switch between legacy and current)
- Relay gamemode: getting to the end of a level and then heading back to the start (essentially Pizza Time.)
- Yellow and Green teams for ringslinger + 4-team CTF
- Being able to switch your character color to a palette that represents the team you're on (ex: Blue Team gets Blue, Cornflower, Cobalt, Sapphire)
- Make ACZ3 a chase sequence with Fang across the train
- Bring back Mine Maze, Dark City, Doom Ship, and Blue Mountain (The RVZ2 concept)!
- Complete Red Volcano Zone and use the Angel Island boss with some extra flare to it, and have Fang pilot it!
- Visible health bar for bosses
- Merge Egg Rock and Black Core back together + Merging Black Core 1 & 2 into one stage
- Have a little elevator cutscene when completing ERZ2
- Have the special stages NOT be NiGHTS ones.
- Emerald Hunt gamemode: Search for three (at max, 6) emerald shards across match, co-op, & CTF stages + unique stages for emerald hunt)
- Not implement the breakfast sandwich for Sonic and instead give him the homing thok.
- Make Tails better at flying by letting him ascend higher and having the player hold the button instead of spam it.
- Make Knuckles more like 2.0/FD Knux by removing the landing delay and letting him glide infinitely in the air, giving him the legacy gliding style but also letting him build up speed the longer he glides.
- As an easter egg, make the Detons very menacing.
- THE OLD SUPERVIRUS EASTER EGG FROM JTE!!!!
- Unique maps just for you and your friends to hang out in.
- Bring back the holiday mechanic from the Final Demo days!
- Evilflower Zone as an unlockable: You start from the end of the acts and have to make your way back to the start of it, fighting the character you're playing as. also greenflower sounds nice when it's upside down
- As a secret unlockable, The Doom Marine! Since SRB2 was built from the DOOM Legacy Engine.
- Difficulty menu: Much like old versions of SRB2, you got Cakewalk, Novice, Experienced, Tough, Harsh, and the extras being Ultimate and Soviet!
- Dust Bowl gamemode: It's soccer (or football, for those outside of the west)! But with a tumbleweed (or the traditional ball if you want)!
- Deathmatch gamemode: It's a 1-vs-1 gamemode to pit two random players from the pool to the death!
- Golf gamemode: Play co-op (and golf) maps like golf! Whoever has the least amount of strokes in a session wins!
- Pool gamemode: Pocket the most pool balls in order to win!
- As an easter egg command: fun_playerswap: Scrambles everyone's names and characters around for fun! Get people mixed up and let them figure out who's who! Abilities match those of the swapped character, so as an example: If Knux and Shadow swap, then Shadow can't glide and Knuckles can't thok. Player A will have the name of Player B, and Player B will have the name of Player A. Perfect for the master of deception, roleplays, or machinimas.
- Juggernaut gamemode: One person is super beefed up! Everyone else has to try and take down the Juggernaut before they can kill everyone!
- Easter egg command: fun_fartblast: It's ridiculous, I know. This will essentially replace some sounds with fart sounds. Why? Just for the fun of it :p
- Hang gliders! As seen in the Arid Canyon museum, implementing hang gliders for players to cross large gaps! Functions more like Ray's Sonic Mania ability, with Forward and Backpedal tilting the glider down and up respectively.
- Easter egg command: roboblast1: Toggles whether or not the game plays like SRB1, with the movement and hurt bug. An updated version of the "killingdead" command.
- Flood gamemode: Oh no! SRB2 is being flooded! Quick, get to the highest point of a map before you're taken to Davey Jone's locker!
- Add in an extra zone tied to the Chaos Emeralds so that they're actually important: Great Comet Zone. Fight Brak Eggman in outer space so that his hands don't touch the Black Rock for good!
- Extra unlockable: Greenflower City: The calm before the storm.

It's a pretty lengthy list ^^"
But yeah, that's what I would bring to SRB2 if I was working on it. A bunch of legacy content that gets a facelift, some extra gamemodes, and some cosmetics and other things! The gamemodes and easter eggs I had the most fun thinking of.

RedXVI is back, but before you meet him back in the house you learn where he is from.
an easy mod maker for srb2 mods that makes a mod in a few seconds. it can basically do anything except attempting to get wip mods earlier illegally.
Dark City and Mine Maze are back! (Mine Maze before Arid Canyon) (Dark City before RVZ)
Egg Rock has that start of level part where you see where the enemies are made.
another gamemode: Survive RedXVI (unlockable) you need every emblem, all emeralds, and beaten hell and heaven.
so redxvi has the ability to spawn anything
and if he sends you to heaven or hell
both heaven and hell are cut into smaller pieces because of how much time you get (3 minutes)
Demo 4 Blaze Returns!!!!

not really what if made srb2, but rather what i wanted to be in the game-list:
- Finished SP campaign (Dark City and Grand Eggship zones)
- new match levels such as: sweet tooth, crystal cave, eggfactory, freak show and slime valley
 
I'd want pretty much every you said plus..
- The second colour mod from 2.1 brought back so you're able to change shoe colour
- 2.1 characters brought back as extras, which function the same as their current vanilla counter part
- The old message that would pop up in demo 3 when you tried to enter doom cheats, or maybe a whole other easter egg

how could i forget that, that'd make srb2 50x better :O
duuuude we could get so much old content working again without needing ports if there was backwards compatibility; sugoi, subarashii, kimokawaii, late 2000s oldc submissions, top down, jasper, orb, twilight, trixie, mystic realm with the second quest, emw5,


These ideas you guys have are awesome!!!!

And an easy mod maker for SRB2 sounds pretty useful for those that wanna make something. SRB2 is open source, after all.
And YES, the little enemy museum from the ERZ development days would make ERZ that much better!
 
- 1st so precisely updated physics. I don't mean momentums or whatever, I mean really update physics. With support for rotations, and all the rest of the hedgehog engine stuff.
- DirectX support. Of course, the 11th is desirable, but the 12th will also not be a bad solution (I don’t know what to say about the 9th, if only as support for an old PC). (Can also used Vulkan, but this is more for mobile devices than for Windows-users)
- Update constructor SRB2 (I mean a Zone Builder). And, in principle, the maps format (they do it anyway, but so be it).
- And (Why not) multilingual support, huh.
- Backward compatibility. Support for addons from 2.1 (2.0) and so on... This will make sense with portlegs lol
- Update dedicated server. Or something from the category. With a kind of protection against cheats that the host could at its discretion enable... And also for dedicated servers (only for win11) support for the view as from Terminal (It's like a CMD but modern-like in win11).
- Update cutscenes. With support for "machinima"-like style or a more prettier way to create them (FMV or like that idk).
- Update main menu... Srlsy is just a list and that's it... Not nice and boring, bruh.
- Protection against fake saves? Cringe of course, however will force the player to play through the game on their own than just downloading a 100% save from the internet, huh. (However, let this not work for multiplayer sessions, because there will be very lacking of all the characters from the completed game '>')
- High score table...? idk, I just thought of it as rolf. Might use information from speedrun.com in time-attack, and just scores for general-users.
- 64-bit support T~T.
- And ofk, discord-rich support and shaders (i meann't a SUPER-DUPER realistic graphics... Well, like palette from 2.1, or palette from Software etc.)
- Cool wavy effect from Software-rendering for OpenGL (water is prettier in software-rendering, huh).
- Combining SRB2Kart and default SRB2... Like a launcher or whatever.

This is basically all the technical parts that I would like to see... However, everything else from the category of new Egg Rock or Dark city from up messaged, let them do it too.
The Best of the SRB2 2.3 update. I hope it will be like that.
 
oh yeah, and some more:
every single version of SRB2 is accessible officially without any mods. (i mean if SRB2TP was official)
Beating old versions like Tournament 2003 on Chaos would give you some other stuff.
Easier Zone Builder with so many other stuff.

SRB2 isn't SRB2 without the doom engine. using the doom engine is what made srb2 one of the most unique sonic fangames

I guess your right, its just sometimes it doesnt feel like a sonic game to me
 
right then...here we go:
make a 8th spiecal stage who haves the mystic emerald (yeah) (and aslo make unlockable super mystic forms)
make ugly knuckles a (real and meme) Boss Fight
srb2 series on youtube
make the srb1 final act of final level as a prequel before the game starts
RedXvi returns at least the 8th chaos emerald does something (in hidden palace)
the hidden palace from srb1 (complete the game with 7 chaos emeralds and getting the 8th chaos emerald) and found by finding a pit in greenflower act 1) when you finish the level a cutscene starts the character drops the chaos emeralds (aslo the 8th chaos emerald) and then the screen goes white and sends you back to title screen (unlocking hyper mystic sonic and hyper sonic)
some addon characters are unlockable if you load them (im really sorry) i got a example: mario and luigi can be seen in the end of pipes tower interact with them and you will unlock the mario bros
make the mods that change the campaign a seperate campaign (srb2 the past is unlockable,mystic realm...you know lock-on and etc!)
i guess thats all.

to be fair, its that gives its accesibility to everyone without exception, even people with old ass PC like mine, who cannot run the modern Opengl, and were stuck with a very obsolete one, because its physically impossible to upgrade, as we require to change the hardware itself directly. And this is specially annoying on Laptops, because let me remind you, everything but the ram, and the hard drive are literally welded together into the mother board, hence why its physically impossible to replace anything but these 2 things.
 
- Backwards compatible with 1094, 2.0, and 2.1 content
- Low system requirements (Works on Windows XP)
- Built in map editor lets you instantly test levels
- Has real 3D physics to run on curves, spheres, and advanced shapes.

i would add a red volcano zone act 2 (and a boss act), make act one less infuriating by removing the annoying enemies, rename Unidus as 'Orbinaut', bring back blue mountain and some other stuff i guess.
