After 2 years of no updates around Jelly Sonic, a newer version of it has been released today, but this would mark it as an FINAL major release of it, which would mean that it would not have any major updates after this, but rather a minor updates (aka with fixing bugs around it, etc.). But at first let's see what has been changed, added in v1.2:
As I mentioned before in the "Plans for the update" I actually planned to add a basic menu for customization of abilities, which you would change your abilities from thok to homing attack, well I reconsidered it, and eventually I didn't add it.
But what have been added and changed is:
- Changed actionspd of this character to 60 (which made thok much faster, just like vanilla Sonic's thok).
- Added a custom super color to Jelly Sonic (which was taken from Dirk's Custom Super Colors)
- Removed some lines in LUA_JS, which references Tails' abilities like flying.
- Changed run sprites, and added skid sprites.
- Added some lines from SA1 Spindash, and Useful Spindash lua scripts.
- Added support for Jelly Sonic & Jelly Tails characters to be played both (this is very different from a separate CL_JSAndJT pk3 file, since it used some lines of lua script from RubyTheMii's Extra Life character, which has a buggier support of playing both Extra Life (which in my case can be changed to Jelly Sonic) & Jelly Tails, especially if you forget loading Jelly Tails at first, but it allowed to change characters with CUSTOM2 button)
And that's it for a newer changes in this update, but now let's talk about why I call this update a FINAL major release, because you maybe be confused at first.. or maybe you have been known the reasons already
So the reasons why I made this decision now is:
The first reason is that after 2024 I started to be uninterested on Sonic community (and of course stopped to be an active Sonic fan, which I have been a part of it since 2019), because as I started to grow up, I started to discover newer communities and interests for myself, started to get interest around Linux communities (and eventually I have chosen Slackware as my main distribution). Eventually it didn't take longer for SRB2 to be also uninteresting and looking like dead from my perspective, and I have been playing SRB2 since the end of 2019 (as my memories remember that it was maybe November of this year), and I discovered it thanks to InFlateShow's video about the History of Fan Projects Based on the Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise (this is a part of this video, where I have discovered it for the first time), and I remember streaming SRB2 on Youtube, which resulted me to finally find some rareties in the future, and here is some screenshots of my streams (which dated on November 11th of 2019) that showed me playing a last version of SRB2 2.1-era of course being SRB2 2.1.25:
And look! this is a Multiplayer list back then:
Comparing it with SRB2 2.2.15's Multiplayer list is just like comparing a good old small village, to a large present-day city or town, which doesn't have many active people living on this city/town (I don't know if this example would fit in or not, but maybe thats what it is. And yeah do you see this "Sonic Mania Plus" server? Well this is a successor of DreamUniverse).
And looking at those screenshots I already start to feel like a nostalgic doomer
, who likes these "good old" times, instead of present-day times, but whatever.
And there's the thing that you should maybe remember or consider it in the future - If you are being a long time fan of these communities, and you start to be uninterested at it, or just being annoyed with conflicts around your community, and want to discover
something newer, then this is your responsibility to either step away from community or stay with it.
The second reason is that I don't consider Jelly Sonic or other of my addons (like ports, etc) as some "ambitious projects" that you need to maintain ASAP, and as I just losed all of this interest around SRB2 this is a really big truth about it, this especially goes to maintaining your addons (like updating it to newer version, that has updated their lua syntaxes completely, that can affect on addons from older versions).
And that's finally for it, and I should remind to you that it doesn't mean that I would "leave" SRB2Workshop completely, or stop following the news around SRB2 community. This does mean that I would not be a some much active on SRB2WS (I would just view what's going on this forum), or in SRB2 community in general (because as I said before I consider it as a "dead" game from my perspective, because it is a fan-made project, and remember all fan-made projects are sometimes not so much popular as official games).
So what I would say to you with this update? Well.. just enjoy it, maybe give a feedback of your own, as I would appreciate it
