Gemerl

Okay, this situation is a bit unclear to me, especially regarding the reports claiming that Infinite Sonic "stole" sprites for the Emerl mod. None of those who complained in the thread, let alone submitted reports, provided any proof, screenshots, or even a hint that this author was involved in "stealing" sprites. At most, I saw a statement from this user.

The following users @neo x and @GT_Trunks, are receiving a warning for insulting other participants on this forum.
sorry, for insulting, but he DID steal sprites, here's photo proof.

even though he stole multiple assets, it's doesn't justify me insulting someone for it. Infinitesonic, if i hurt your feelings over this, im sorry.

I did see the provided proofs, but I cannot classify this as "theft" in the sense of borrowing content from another author for one’s own addon, since Infinite Sonic hasn’t even released any work in the form of an actual addon or demonstration, such as a screenshot or GIF showing, for example, gameplay featuring this character.

This situation can be interpreted in many ways, as there is still too little information. Perhaps Infinite Sonic intended to create his own project based on another author's work and then planned to further develop it, right?

I can understand, of course, the frustration of many that Infinite Sonic essentially hasn’t created anything of his own, not even a placeholder based on someone else's work. But at this moment, I don’t see any “theft” even if we go by the definitions pushed on SRB2MB and SRB2OC.

I said I promise I will soon send money to give credits if I finish making my mods with someone sprites.

In your case, this isn’t the best place to offer someone money for specific content in such a community. In these circles, doing something for money related to a fan-game usually isn’t well-received (or at the very least, it’s not something you should talk about so openly).

Look at previous post and you will see emerl sprites that dont belong to him.

okay, so let me break this down.
"i cannot classify this as theft in the sense of borrowing content from another author for one’s addon"
-okay dude, infinite sonic here literally stole sonicsez and motorroach's sprites and crystallinegazers css art [which sonicsez commissioned]. he didn't borrow anything. he stole it.

"infinite sonic hasn’t even released any work in the form of an actual addon or demonstration."
-just because he didn't release anything doesn't excuse the fact that he still stole someone art.

"perhaps infinite sonic intended to create his own project based on another author's work and then planned to further develop it, right?"
-no. he did not intend to do all that. if you go back a few pages, he says "got sprite" and attached sonicsez' sprites and the moveset image sonicsez shared on the mb thread. when he said "got sprites" he was obviously going to use them, no doubt.

and to what you said last, i don't know what to say if you don't know what theft is. "i don't see any theft even if we go by the definitions pushed on the srb2mb or srb2oc." okay dude, really? ask anyone on there, im sure they will say otherwise. as for the srb2oc, i don't know what that is. even though stealing/plagiarism is not a rule-breaker here, it's still very disappointing and pathetic.

agree. also, I wasn't even being rude. just cracking a joke. also, I'm pretty sure there is a rule about not showing proof of a WIP

that's specifically on the mb, not here.
oh shit my bad then. I tend not to focus with a certain spectrum I'm on. It should lowkey be a rule here too.

You’re still claiming to me that this is "theft", but aside from the fact that Infinite Sonic simply posted pictures with these sprites, you haven’t provided any proof. So, the question remains: how can this be classified as "theft," and what exactly did he violate in terms of "theft"?

>ask anyone on there

Anyone there are who exactly? SRB2WS has different types of people who have varying interpretations of "theft" and similar concepts. Therefore, it’s not right for you to speak on behalf of others.

The word "steal" in the sense in which it is usually used in relation to "unauthorized use of assets" usually implies specific actions. For example, publishing "stolen" assets and attributing authorship to yourself. Or publishing an addon where these assets are used. And the example you gave, I consider as rather strange. The person simply copied the picture, without using its content in his addon, without attributing authorship to himself. It seems that semantic inflation has gone too far, it is time to return the words "theft" and "plagiarism" to their original meanings.

Otherwise, sooner or later we may reach the point where even thinking about someone else's assets will be considered "unethical" unless there is permission to do so. Of course, I am now taking this to the point of absurdity, but I sincerely believe that the authors of these words would consider the way you use them absurd.

Infinite Sonic claimed his sprites as his own even as far as profiting around these assets. Yeah, that's stealing. And no, what you're other reason for this Neo X, isn't.
If he just said "Hey guys, I'm making my own Emerl mod and credit to this guy for making these sprites.", then it would had been a whole another story. Instead it feels like trolling.

okay fine, maybe he didn't claim the sprites as his own, but he definitely didn't get the permission [or at the least, give credit] to use them either. and he uses his argument of "they are free to download" to justify his action of "stealing". also im wrong for using the word plagiarism. but he still definitely stole it, but he DID admit it in the end and that's only because we called him out for it.

Claiming Something that is not yours is def stealing. saying that its free to download and use which might not be a reasonable ban here but it is not cool. All WE did was call him out for said stealing sprites.

We should honestly just stop talking here, because this is just a useless "works in progress" thread. The mods should just lock this thread cuz he didn't do NOTHING at all.

I'll give you proof. How is it "borrowing" if he didn't even ask? To borrow something is to ask first, Infinite Sonic did not. It doesn't matter if he hasn't released any work, he's actively stealing it, and planning to use it as his own. Furthermore, it shows that he's been working on nothing, and that this whole topic is worthless. "This situation can be interpreted in many ways, as there is still too little information." Let me challenge that notion. On December 6th 2024, Infinite Sonic stated that "BRO I DID NOT STOLEN THOSE. I WAS SOON GOING TO MAKE YOUR NEW EMERL TEAM WITH GEMERL AND SHARD." (Proof: https://mb.srb2.org/threads/emerl-srb2.37998/page-4#post-667257) Which implies that he was going to steal his mod to pair it with Gemerl and Shard (which he probably wouldn't be able to do because he seems to have no modding skills, as well as no proof of making the Emerl mod, and just stole some pngs off of the internet.) Is that enough proof for you?

this, THIS! read this, this is enough proof to see that infinitesonic is stealing other people's artwork.

Glad everyone here is smart enough to see that this is stealing not borrowing. let's just let this thread die not take it to the grave.
