He is the original developer behind SRB2, and after he left the team to likely tend to his family, he chose a group of people many would come to call the Mystic administration/the Old Guard to carry the torch.
Those punks however were very zealous about the direction they wanted the game to go to the point of stepping on art community punks' toes, so once Sapheros was outed for being a kid chaser, that kinda gave people a reason to axe Mystic plus much of the Old Guard, as not only was he slow in his response to the situation, something that served to fuel the drama further, but he also started seeking to investigate a certain influential art community member Inazuma's close circle, he was looking for some private server or somethin'.
Suffice to say, the art community punks wanted the guy flushed out, and honestly, I did too. Unfortunately as with most revolutions, it turns out the people who took power were not exactly sincere in their motivations.
Once they outed Mystic's cadre, the art community punks decided that they wanted to become the new administration, with the main honcho of their clique being Charyb. At first they seemed to do their job a bit better until they started showing the typical signs of EN Sonic fandom behavior like obsessing over the possibility of people plagiarizing their precious fan art, pushing safe spaces onto people as well as monetizing commission work behind the scenes of various mods. (Something MotorRoach's behavior back a year or so in Trash Bin implied.)
Their shenanigans has resulted in various things such as the community split between MB & WS, various respectable community members like Luigibudd & Glaber getting banned as a result of bad moderation and the proliferation of hostile western RL ideological behavior that breaks the forum rules on both WS & MB.
Lastly, there is another faction that is also tied to the problems facing this community, the EX-SMBX community members of Kart Krew gaining power in this community with SRB2Kart's success. Only thing you need to know about those punks is that these people fucked up their own community and then ran away here, leaving the SMBX community to be taken over by another group of people similar to Charyb's posse called Codehaus.
They are apparently the very band of losers who apparently tried to backstab THE Redigit back in the day only for them to be left in the dirt as he ascended to become a game industry legend through Terraria. I don't exactly know the full details of what their part is in the community mess, all I know is they kiss Charyb's boots and are thus likely part of the problem. (As well as way more incompetent game devs, as displayed by DRRR flopping and falling right through the algorithms after the initial hype launch period.)
