(The whole purpose of this thread is to not start a war or anything malicious other than discussing some stuff)
Hello. I'm one of those users from the message board by the name "Hee-Ho." and I want to get this off my chest.
So I was on MB for a while after my first ever sign up, for like a year, and then afterwards I took a break from SRB2 in general to focus on other things, and also I lost my privilege to post here when I did nothing to get me in trouble. Until I came back to see what's up, and I saw a thread that made me disgusted; some OP got banned over a video game (while some were rightfully deserved from this thread, but OP had no intentions other than talking about the game), and the game in question is harmless (well, it's mid, but it's not political, which is really ironic since one of the mods made a political statement afterwards; they broke one of their rules by doing that). I'm not posting it because I don't want to sound like I'm starting a war, but the thread in question is still around, so lurk it if you wish.
This unprofessionalism made me explore a rabbit hole that I was unaware of. One of which is how this place treats SRB2 as "art," which already is a red flag, especially when the game itself is open-source; even the official website says so. Yet the entire community treats this game as if it's not. Like, imagine getting yourself shit on and then got banned over some "stolen code," even if you credited the "artist," which GitHub would laugh at this claim, by the way. Look, it's one thing if it's an original character (like bastardization, which doesn't make any sense when parodies are a thing), but it's rich when 80/90% of these mods are using an IP that they never owned (saying you should get permission to use a recolor, then it's already a sign that this community is a complete joke), and the whole reason why we are playing these mods in the first place is because we're fans of Sonic and want to have fun. This is a video game, not DeviantArt, and I'm not sorry to say this, but this excuse of "I'm working hard; I should do whatever I want!" is null when even the game itself was made for free after a whole whopping 20 years, yet it's open-source even to this day. Because SRB2 was made not just for passion but for fun, which most mods nowadays are not doing, instead as a show-off for an "artist's" skill.
So if you wonder how the official MB bred closed-minded, hypocritical elitists, how they hate anything that it isn't they're bubble and will call you as the villain even when you did nothing wrong. And I know this is a meme at this point, but it's a behavior of a Twitter/X user.
Then you now know why.
If you want to add it to the conversation, then don't hesitate so, but keep in mind to not harass anyone here, because in the end of the day, we are talking about video games.
