S3 Edition Knuckles​

Explanation​

No, actually, this is just a waste of your time.

Knuckles misplaced his green cylinders somewhere, so he just put on the old yellow ones. He's also a bit more in the mood to mess with Sonic now and his red coat magically became more bright because of that. As for the white crescent, well, he ran out of white paint to spray it with so it's just tan again...

Okay, I lied about that last one, a commercial with a shoe brand that was supposed to feature Knuckles fell through and he's now forced to recolor it from white back to tan, yup... It is what is.

I told you so.

Features​

Like the title suggests, this is a fairly straight-forward and simple mod that brings Knuckles a bit more into line with his appearance in Sonic 3 (cutscene/pre-S&K), so I'll list off the things it does:

- Knuckles' sprites are all replaced with ones where the colors for his socks and his chest crescent are all replaced from green and white to yellow and tan respectively;

- I used my Sprite Fixes mod as a base for this, so on top of this being the new sprites from SRB2 v2.2.14, this also carries all of the fixes I've personally made for Knuckles;

- Knuckles' preferable player skin color is changed from Pepper to Salmon, largely because I wanted this add-on to be compatible with older versions of the game where the Pepper color simply doesn't exist since it was added into the game later via a patch;

- Recolored graphics of Knuckles featured in the intro/title-screen/credits are introduced to replace the old ones to make the character consistent outside of the player character skin.

As far as effort used goes, applying the color change for the socks was easy with SLADE's color remap feature (story intro graphics required me to manually apply the colors to the socks, though), but for the chest crescent, I had to go through almost every sprite individually and manually replace the white color with the tan one. There were some difficulties with that since the color range between tan and white did not match up at all so I had to improvise in a few places, but other than that, after several hours of tinkering and constantly staring at my image editing tool as well as an entire additional day spent covering the title-screen/intro/credits graphics, this turned out to be a fairly simple and easy mod to make, just a little time-consuming.

Only thing I lament not being able to do is make a fitting custom color. I've brain stormed with a friend over this for a while and the original/similar colors seen in Knuckles' sprites in Sonic 3 simply do not map onto SRB2 Knuckles at all, making it practically impossible to have a color palette that fits his Sonic 3 appearance without looking jarring on SRB2 Knuckles' far more complex sprites.

As for the color ultimately used in this add-on, I liked Salmon quite a lot and I saw it fitting enough to use on top of being a player skin color since SRB2 v2.2.0, so yes, you can load this on every SRB2 v2.2.X build and it'll work as intended.

Reuse this mod for everything ever, including sending pieces of it in Morse code through space to see if some wacky aliens manage to get a hold of it. Uh, not that I tried...
